If you are a student with an urgent need of funding, you can try applying for a grant to the NSF. The NSF or the National Science Foundation is a federal institution that specializes in giving grants. It is divided into many different departments where they employ and assign experts to review your grant proposals. There are guidelines that you would need to follow very carefully in order to get a grant from the National Science Foundation. There is another significant fact that differ NFS grants from other federal grants, that is a distinctive and appealing project that makes you unique from other people who proposed for this particular grant.

To apply for the NFS grants you would first be required to complete a few sections in the cover sheet. There are a total of four sections in the cover sheet. The first section being awarder and research institution, the second being program announcement and number, the third being NSF unit of consideration and the last one being other information. There are many subsections of the other information section. Some of which are project title, budget and duration information, and principal and co principal investigator information.

The first required section of all NSF grant proposals would be to write a project summary. The project summary should include objectives, methods and the significance of the project. If your grant proposal is accepted, the project summary will be published and made available for the public and your colleagues to read. You should really describe the details of your project in the project description section. While details are required, you should style your proposal in a way so this section will not be longer than 15 pages. It is up to you how to fashion your project detail in that amount of pages. This is one of the most important parts of your proposal as you will be explaining the whole project here.

You would be required to include a summary of the previous NFS support in details if you or other researcher included in your project had ever accepted a grant from the NFS in the past. Details like award number and amount, timer period, project title and summary of the results has to be included in a special section that you should entitled as Results from Prior NSF Support. Please do not forget to list your references. You should remember all of your research sources and give them the necessary compliments. The other important thing to include is of course the amount of grant you will be asking for. List in details the expenses you will be using responsibly. If all sections are checked then conclude with a description of the environment you will need to have in your research project. You should also include the equipments you need in the last section of your proposal entitled “Facilities and Special Considerations”.
